Liquid Detergent. If a soft eraser failed to remove the stain, apply a few drops of liquid detergent to the affected area and rub gently with a soft, damp cloth.

For clean, smudge-free results, resist the urge to brush or blow off the debris left on your work after you’ve used an eraser – this can cause unwanted smudging and introduce moisture from your breath onto your work. Gently lift your paper and give it a gentle shake to clear it off – the extra effort is worth it. A flexi-curve, also known as a flexible curve or flex curve is a flexible drawing tool that can be moulded to almost any curve or contour. It is usually made from lead which is wrapped in steel ribbons and covered in flexible plastic or rubber. They are used to draw curves such as lines connecting points on a pattern. Triangles are used to draw vertical lines and other lines at set angles. Rest the triangle on theT-square blade and slide it along the blade to the desired location. Draw the full length of thevertical line in one pass if possible. Hold the blades of the T-square and the triangle together toprevent movement when you are drawing, and hold the pencil point as close as possible to First kneading: a bit stiff, had to twist it to get it to move, held together like gum except when I stretched it more than 2cm then would form fine threads that had little bits caught in it that fell out like snow, so I felt I was losing bits of the rubber. This was prevented by only using a twisting or pressing motion, not a stretching motion. Then it was fine. Second kneading of small piece next day: fine. Set Squares are used to draw accurate angles. The most common set squares are 45 degrees and 60/30 degrees. When using set squares they should always be used along with a T-Square. The Set-square rest on the straight edge of the T-Square and this ensures that the angle is drawn straight and with accuracy. Diagram 4 – Set squares Clean classical erasers by rubbing them with a cotton cloth or washing them in soapy water (don’t forget to dry them before using them). A clean sharp-edged vinyl or rubber eraser which can be re-cut periodically to form a fresh clean edge, is handy when sharp thin lines need to be lifted out.

A circle template is used to draw circles of set diameters. They are particularly useful if the circle is to small to be able to use a compass. They are plastic with a number of accurate circles cut out. The circle template has its centers indicated at the edge of the circle. These are used to assist in locating the template accurately on your drawing. The diameter is selected and a sharp pencil is used to draw the circle or arc. Diagram 10 – Circle Template

A compass (diagram 3) (or pair of compasses) is a technical drawing instrument that can be used for drawing circles or arcs. As dividers, they can also be used as tools to measure distances, in particular on maps. Compasses can be used for mathematics, drafting, navigation, and other purposes. The best advice is to draw very faint lines you can barely see and when painted over they won’t show. Or let the graphite lines show a bit as part of the painting.

Many people find coloured pencils hard to erase and usually impossible to erase completely. They think the best you can do is lighten an area enough that you can colour over it.
